Although it may seem like a minute detail, your church’s logo is extremely important. It is a visual representation of your church. When thinking through the design of your church’s logo, it is important to keep the mission and vision of your church in the forefront of your mind.
There are three important aspects of design that will be helpful to keep in mind when designing your church’s logo: the typography, the icon, and the colors you choose.
1. The typography is the font that will be used in your church’s logo. It is important to make sure that whatever font you choose is both legible and conveys the correct emotions to your audience. Recognize the difference between serif and sans serif. Serif is a very classic type font while sans serif is more modern in style. Serif fonts will convey more reserved and traditional emotions, and sans serif fonts will convey more forward thinking and creative emotions.
2. The icon is the most visual part of your logo to take into consideration. The icon that a church chooses says much about what the church values and stands for. Oftentimes, churches will use the features of their geographical location as their icon, whether that be mountains, the ocean, or the forest. Churches may also seek to convey their mission through the icon, whether that be disciple-making or reaching other nations. Remember that your icon can be a witness opportunity to your local community.
3. Although colors may seem subjective and unimportant, the colors you choose for your logo actually play a big role in how your church is perceived. Each color represents something and stirs certain emotions within a person. Think through what colors you want to represent your church.
Designing your church’s logo is a big responsibility. It is the first impression that people have of your church, so be sure that your logo accurately represents your church.
