We live in an age where we hear the phrase “more is better” all the time. If you are like me, you probably get exhausted from trying to keep up with the pace of everything going on in the world. Your church communication is no different.
If you were to take the time and look at all the other churches in your area and what they are doing, you would feel overwhelmed pretty fast by all the things they are doing. In fact, you will probably feel behind.
In church communications, your work is broadcast for all the world to see. And it’s easy to take what you do and compare it to someone else. When you see the volume at which they are communicating, you begin to wonder, am I not doing my job? Am I not doing enough for my church? And that’s an honest, authentic reaction.
But the truth is that just because someone is doing more doesn’t mean they are more effective. In fact, the opposite is true. The higher volume of communications you kick out, the less effective you are going to be.
When communication is streamlined, it becomes so much more effective. If you were to take a look at all of your church communication and decide to only communicate three things, what would that look like? It would be hard and painful to narrow it down, but your communications will be much more effective because all your channels will sing the same consistent message.
