90 Second Leadership – Transformational Development
Let’s talk about transformational development. Now, most of the time in our churches we are guilty of transactional development. Transactional means that we are only focused on a knowledge transfer. Most training boils down to this approach. To get competency, to gain mastery, and to take someone to the next level of leadership, we need an overlap of knowledge, experience, and coaching.
The way we do that is by asking good questions. We are going to move people from generalization questions about facts and feelings to personal implications of how you apply those to your life. What are the application principles that you have?
Next it’s implementation. What are you going to do about it? What are you going to do next? Finally, we move to the coaching element. That is where are we provide good feedback so that they can be encouraged and equipped to take that next step and really make sure that they are understanding and gaining competency.
Finally, actualization happens. That is where they have full competence and mastery and can begin applying and coaching someone else through this same journey. When we develop content for Pipeline and Ministry Grid, we make sure that we are taking people through these types of questions and steps. This is what leads to competence. This is what leads mastery. Whether you use our content or not, now that you have this framework, what are you going to do about it?
