90 Second Leadership: Transformational Leadership
Today I want to talk to you about transformational leadership. Traditional education is concerned with two things: a display of knowledge through testing and time. Think about your college major, you probably spent forty hours in that subject. But did you really display mastery or competency in that when your time in school was over?
Competency learning adds a third circle to traditional education. Competency based learning is knowledge, experience and coaching. When you have that overlap of knowledge, experience and coaching, it leads to transformation. The place where all three of these elements meet is called the transformational sweet spot. That is where you actually have mastery and proficiency in something.
Think about the real world example of driving a car. How do you get a driver’s license? Well, first you have to display knowledge and pass a test, then you get experience by getting behind the wheel, and then you get coaching from another driver who has been their before and has competency.
But how many times in the church do we give away the keys to significant ministry before people are ready? May it never be.
